Cyclically adjusted budget deficit (周期调整性预算赤字)

Cyclically adjusted budget deficit (周期调整性预算赤字 zhōuqī tiáozhěngxìng yùsuàn chìzì) refers to a type of government budget deficit occurs when the economy activity and employment is at a normal level. It is evaluated based on the expectation of change in taxation and spending instead of change in fiscal policy. It is also referred to as full-employment budget deficit.

  • 周期 (zhōuqī) derives from

(zhōu) means week or representing a date, as in one week (一周 yīzhōu) or Sunday (周日 zhōurì); (qī) means a period of time, as in date (日期 rìqī) or final (期末 qīmò);

周期 (zhōuqī) as in study routine (学习周期 xuéxí zhōuqī) or life cycle (生活周期 rénshēngzhōuqī).

(yù) means before and pre, as in beforehand (预先 yùxiān) or prophesy (预言 yùyán). (suàn) means calculation or amount, as in computing (计算 jìsuàn) or total amount (总算 zǒngsuàn).

预算 (yùsuàn) as in project budget (项目预算 xiàngmù yùsuàn) or annual budget (年度预算 niándù yùsuàn).

  • 赤字 (chìzì) derives from

(chì) means red, as in red color (赤色 chìsè); (zì) means character, as in Chinese character (汉字 hànzì); the meaning comes from the old Chinese tradition of writing off deficit in red color;

赤字 (chìzì) as in fiscal deficit (财政赤字 cáizhèng chìzì).
