Deflator (平减指数 píng jiǎn zhǐshù) refers to a statistic factor used to remove the effect of inflation which enable economists to compare price level in different time periods and get an idea of the inflation-adjusted purchasing power.
- 平 (píng) as in flat (平坦 píngtǎn), even (平均 píngjūn) or peace (和平 hépíng).
- 减 (jiǎn) as in decreasing (减少 jiǎnshǎo) or subtracting (减去 jiǎnqù).
- 指 (zhǐ) as in finger (手指 shǒuzhǐ), pointing (指向 zhǐxiàng) or guidance (指示 zhǐshì).
- 数 (shù) as in number (数字 shùzì) or (数学 shùxué).
