Devaluation (货币贬值 huòbì biǎnzhí) refers to the decline of the value in the unit currency. The devaluation of currency usually causes the rise of price.
- 货 (huò) as in commodity or goods (货品 huòpǐn), money (通货 tōnghuò). The underlying radical is 贝 (bei), which contains the meaning of money.
- 币 (bì) as in coin (硬币 yìng bì), paper currency (纸币 zhǐbì) or money (钱币 qiánbì).
- 贬 (biǎn) contains (贝 bèi) which means shell or money, and (乏 fá) which means lack of sth.. 贬 (biǎn) as in disparaging (贬低 biǎndī) or negative words (贬义词 biǎnyìcí).
- 值 (zhí) as in value (价值 jiàzhí), worth (值得 zhídé) or ratio (比值 bǐzhí).
