Differentiated goods (差异产品 chāyì chǎnpǐn) refer to competing products which have strong substitutability (可替换性 kě tìhuàn xìng) and are not identical with other products. The differences (差异 chāyì) of goods (产品 chǎnpǐn) may lie in the aspects including function, appearance, location and quality. Differentiated goods help to lead to consumers’ different preferences towards goods.

  • 差异 (chāyì) derives from

(chā) as in difference (差别 chābié), inferior (差的 chàdē) or error (误差 wùchā).

(yì) as in strange (怪异 guaìyì) or abnormal (异常 yìcháng).

  • 产品 (chǎnpǐn) derives from

(chǎn) as in producing (生产 shēngchǎn), capital (资产 zīchǎn) or industry (产业 chǎnyè).

(pǐn) as in quality (品质 pǐnzhì), taste (品味 pǐnweì) or sample (样品 yàngpǐn).
