Leading indicators (领先指标)

Leading indicators (领先指标 lǐngxiān zhǐbiāo) refer to statistics and data that predict future change or movement in the economy. Leading indicators provide information about prospective business conditions and early signs of turning points in business cycles, which help market observers and policymakers to better plan for the future.   • (lǐng) as in collar (衣领 yī lǐng) or leader (领导 lǐngdǎo).
  • (xiān) as in ancester ( zǔxiān) or before ( xiānqián).
  • (zhǐ) as in point out (指出 zhǐchū) or fingerprint (指纹 zhǐwén).
  • (biāo) as in mark ( biāojì) or signpost (lùbiāo).
