Merkle tree (默克尔树 mò kè ěr shù or 哈希树 hā xī shù) is a tree data structure in cryptography and computer science. Merkle tree allows efficient and secure verification of the contents of large data structures.
- 默克尔 (mò kè ěr) is the transliteration of “Merkle”.
- 树 (shù) as in tree (树木 shùmù) or leaf (树叶 shùyè).
It is also called hash tree (哈希树 hā xī shù) because of being built with hash values.
