Producer surplus (生产者剩余 shēngchǎn zhě shèngyú) is the extraneous income that producers have from the difference between the minimum supply price of products and the current market price.
- 生 (shēng) as in life (生活 shēnghuó or 生命 shēngmìng), angry (生气 shēngqì) or birthday (生日 shēng); 产 (chǎn) as in product (产品 chǎnpǐn), industry (产业 chǎnyè) or property (财产 cáichǎn). 生产 (shēngchǎn) means producing or manufacturing.
- 者 (zhě) refers to a person, as in author (作者 zuòzhě) or reader (读者 dúzhě).
- 剩 (shèng) as in remaining (剩下 shèngxià). 余 (yú) as in balance (余额 yú’é). 剩余 (shèngyú) remainder, as in surplus product (剩余产品 shèngyú chǎnpǐn).
